The Eighth day of Navratri, also famous as Durga Ashtami, is deeply special for millions of devotees across India. On this auspicious day, people worship Maa Mahagauri, the eighth form of Goddess Durga. She represents extreme purity, peace, and grace. Worshipping her brings true happiness, wipes away past sins, and fulfills all honest wishes. The morning hours between 06:20 AM and 09:30 AM are highly favorable for performing the Ashtami puja rituals. For the sacred Bhog, offer coconut, coconut based sweets, or traditional halwa, puri, and black chana.
To begin the morning rituals, wake up early, take a bath, and put on clean white or light coloured clothes. Clean your home altar thoroughly and place an image or idol of Goddess Mahagauri. Light a pure ghee lamp and incense sticks. Offer fresh white flowers like jasmine or lotus, along with kumkum and akshat. Chant her sacred mantra, "Om Devi Mahagauryai Namah", 108 times with devotion. Perform the devotional Aarti and invite young girls for the traditional Kanya Pujan. If you are fasting, strictly avoid wheat, rice, onion, garlic, and regular salt. Consume only fruits, milk, sabudana, and meals made using sendha namak (rock salt). Maintain a calm mind and spread peace everywhere to receive the maximum blessings of Mother Mahagauri.
