The Delhi High Court has refused to stop a protest planned by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and its founder Abhijeet Dipke in New Delhi. The protest is scheduled for October 16, 2026, at Central Park in Connaught Place. The court took this decision on Thursday, October 15. The court did not issue an order to stop the demonstration. It also recorded the assurance given by Delhi Police that all necessary steps would be taken to manage the protest and maintain public order.
The protest comes amid growing political tensions over demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. CJP and other groups have raised concerns about alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls. These are allegations, and the Election Commission has denied wrongdoing.
The issue has become more serious after Delhi Police removed Jantar Mantar status as a designated protest site and named Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground and CBD Ground as alternative locations. The move has led to legal challenges and questions about the right to hold peaceful demonstrations in the national capital. The latest court decision is an important development for the planned CJP gathering. However, the protest will still be subject to lawful directions and security arrangements made by the authorities.
