Anthropic is reportedly considering the release of a new artificial intelligence model as it faces growing competition from OpenAI recently launched GPT-6 Astra. According to a Reuters report cited by The Times of India, three people familiar with the company internal discussions said Anthropic is reviewing whether to bring its next model to users sooner.
The possible launch comes at an interesting time for Anthropic. Just days ago, its CEO Dario Amodei called on AI companies to slow down the development of increasingly powerful AI systems. In a 3,800 word essay, Amodei warned about safety risks from highly autonomous AI and said the industry needs more time to improve safeguards.
However, OpenAI GPT-6 Astra has reportedly gained attention from corporate users after its September 3 launch. TOI reported that data from Ramp showed Astra accounting for about 13 percent of monitored enterprise AI spending, compared with around 8 percent for Anthropic Claude Fable.
Anthropic is also preparing for an expected IPO, adding further attention to its business performance. Its annualised revenue run rate crossed $65 billion by late July, according to the report. The company has not made a final decision on the new model launch. Its next system is reportedly undergoing safety checks while Anthropic considers whether to release it.
