The Delhi High Court has issued a strong warning regarding the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) elections. The court declared that it might halt the counting of votes and postpone the final election results if campus violence, vandalism, and hooliganism are not controlled immediately.
A bench of Chief Justice D. K. Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia expressed deep anger over recent clashes, vandalism, and mess created during political campaigning. Student groups face serious allegations of using muscle power, driving unregistered vehicles, scattering paper flyers everywhere, and damaging public property across university grounds. Hearing a plea on rules compliance, the court remarked that democracy in educational places cannot be turned into a criminal society.
The high court demanded detailed action reports from Delhi University authorities, Delhi Police, and the Central government regarding strict steps taken against rule breakers. Judges made it clear that if institutions fail to submit satisfactory action reports and restore discipline, the court will not hesitate to order a stay on counting votes or defer results completely. Authorities and police officers have now been instructed to secure college premises rapidly so normal students stay safe.
