Central Delhi witnessed massive commotion as thousands of protesters took to the streets over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Civil society groups, student unions, and farmer organizations gathered under the banner of "People Against SIR" to voice their anger against the massive deletion of names from the voter list.
The protest march, which started near Gole Dak Khana and headed toward Jantar Mantar and the Election Commission headquarters, saw heavy police deployment. Security forces set up barricades across key roads, leading to heavy traffic jams and diversions around central parts of the capital. Protesters chanted slogans demanding the immediate scrapping of the SIR exercise, the restoration of voting rights for affected citizens, and the resignation of top election officials.
Agitating leaders claimed that millions of genuine voters have lost their voting rights without proper verification, calling the revision process unfair and flawed. Several prominent activists and student leaders joined the march, while police briefly detained key organizers to control the growing crowd.
Authorities have advised commuters to avoid central Delhi routes, as security remains strictly tightened around sensitive areas to prevent further disruption. The protesting groups have declared that their demonstration will continue across the nation until their demands are fully addressed by the government and election authorities.
