Delhi is set to introduce restrictions on the entry of non BS6 vehicles from November 1 as authorities step up efforts to control air pollution in the national capital. The proposed measure aims to reduce vehicular emissions, particularly during the winter months when air quality in Delhi often deteriorates.
BS6, or Bharat Stage 6, is India vehicle emission standard designed to limit harmful pollutants released by vehicles. Older vehicles complying with earlier emission standards may face restrictions under the new rules, depending on the government final notification and the categories of vehicles covered.
The move could affect motorists travelling to Delhi from neighbouring states, including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Vehicle owners should check their vehicle emission standard, registration documents and applicable entry rules before planning a journey to the capital.
Authorities may also strengthen traffic monitoring and enforcement at key entry points to ensure compliance. The restrictions are part of broader efforts to tackle pollution caused by transport, construction, road dust and other sources. However, drivers should verify the exact scope of the ban, including exemptions, vehicle categories and enforcement arrangements, through official government announcements before travelling. The new restrictions could encourage the use of cleaner vehicles and public transport while supporting Delhi wider efforts to improve air quality.
