The landmark Free Trade Agreement between India and New Zealand officially came into force today, opening massive trade opportunities for Indian exporters and creating dedicated visa pathways for thousands of skilled professionals and students.

Under the historic pact, New Zealand provides immediate zero duty access for all Indian exports across eight thousand tariff lines, completely eliminating peak tariffs on pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, textiles, leather items, and agricultural products. Bilateral trade between both nations is projected to double to over seven billion dollars in the coming years. Beyond merchandise trade, the agreement establishes groundbreaking mobility provisions for Indian citizens, including a quota of five thousand temporary work visas for professionals in technology, healthcare, engineering, and education. Specialized visa categories have also been launched for Indian chefs, yoga instructors, music teachers, and traditional AYUSH medical practitioners.

Indian university graduates will gain significant advantages under extended post study work visas ranging from three years for science and engineering degrees to four years for doctoral scholars. Commerce ministry officials hailed the operational trade pact as a major boost for domestic manufacturing, regional service exports, and international youth opportunities.
