In a massive discovery for space science scientists have confirmed that a unique rock found in the Sahara Desert is actually a piece of Mars that is more than 4.1 billion years old. Named Teghaza 001 this special space rock weighs about 800 grams and was originally discovered in Mali. Researchers funded by NASA studied the rock and found that it is one of the oldest Martian meteorites ever discovered on Earth.

What makes this discovery even more exciting for scientists is that the rock carries chemical clues showing it interacted with liquid water billions of years ago. Experts are calling it a Rosetta Stone for Mars because it gives a rare look into what the Red Planet looked like during its early days helping us understand if life or water cycles could have existed there long ago.
