Actor Rashmika Mandanna has responded to online trolling over her South Indian accent in Hindi films. Appearing on Koffee With Karan Season 9 with her husband, actor Vijay Deverakonda, Rashmika explained why she does not want criticism to stop her from working in different film industries.

Rashmika said she has faced criticism since the beginning of her acting career. People have commented on her acting, language and accent, but she does not want these opinions to limit her choices. Speaking about the criticism over her accent, she said, I am from the South of India. So I am going to have an accent. It unreasonable to think otherwise. Her response highlights her belief that an actor should not have to hide their roots to work in another language.

The actress also explained that she wants to work in different industries and speak different languages. She said playing very different characters in films like Animal and The Girlfriend gives her satisfaction as an actor. Rashmika also spoke about dubbing for her own films. She said she gives directors the option to choose another dubbing artist if they feel it would suit the character better. However, her directors have preferred that she dub for herself. Her comments have brought attention to the challenges actors face when working across language industries. Many viewers may see her response as a reminder that an accent is part of a person background, not something to be ashamed of.
