The Election Commission of India has clarified that all final decisions taken during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls were approved unanimously by all three Election Commissioners. The clarification came after reports raised questions about differences within the poll panel over the voter list revision exercise.
The ECI said that written notes, questions, suggestions and different views are a normal part of discussions inside a multi member constitutional body. According to the Commission, such discussions happen before a final decision is taken and should not be treated as a disagreement over the final orders. The SIR process has been carried out in phases across India to review and update electoral rolls. The Commission said the nationwide SIR order issued in June 2025 was approved unanimously. It also said later decisions related to the exercise received the approval of all three members.
The ECI has also introduced measures to make the process easier for voters who receive notices because their details are unmapped or show logical discrepancies. Such voters will generally not be required to appear personally before an Electoral Registration Officer unless their presence is considered necessary.
The issue has attracted political debate, with opposition parties raising questions about voter inclusion and deletion during the SIR process. The ECI has rejected claims of institutional dissent and maintained that its final decisions were unanimous. The Commission said it remains committed to protecting the accuracy of electoral rolls while following legal procedures.
