India Tajinderpal Singh Toor won the silver medal in the men shot put at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi Nagoya on Saturday. His result ended his attempt to win a third straight Asian Games gold medal. Toor had previously won gold at the 2018 Jakarta and 2022 Hangzhou Games.
The 31 year old produced a best throw of 20.64 metres to finish second. Iran Mohammadreza Tayebise won the gold medal after producing a Games record throw of 20.81 metres. Saudi Arabia Mohammed Tolu took the bronze with a throw of 20.48 metres.
Tayebise winning throw also broke Toor previous Asian Games record of 20.75 metres, which he had set while winning gold in Jakarta in 2018. Despite missing the gold medal, Toor continued his impressive record at the Asian Games by winning his third consecutive medal in the event. Toor had entered the competition as the defending champion and one of India leading athletics medal hopes. His silver also added another medal to India growing tally at the Aichi Nagoya Games.
The result came after Toor had earlier faced a setback before the Games when he was replaced as India opening ceremony flag bearer because of an issue involving his ceremonial kit. He later shifted his focus to the competition. Although the hat trick of gold medals did not happen, Toor latest silver keeps him among India consistent performers at the Asian Games.
