United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared that a long awaited bilateral trade deal between Washington and New Delhi is nearly completed, while urging India to significantly scale up purchases of American energy supplies, defense hardware, and emerging technologies.
Speaking during high level diplomatic discussions with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Mumbai, Rubio confirmed that negotiators are resolving final technical clauses to finalize the historic agreement ahead of upcoming summit meetings. The United States State Department highlighted that expanded energy trade with American suppliers can play a transformative role in helping India diversify critical supply chains while satisfying vast domestic consumer demand. In addition to energy cooperation, Rubio commended recent progress in civil nuclear frameworks and advocated for increased procurement of advanced American military systems to bolster mutual security and economic prosperity across the Indo Pacific region.
The high profile diplomatic visit also includes scheduled tours of major industrial facilities in Gujarat, including the Jamnagar oil refinery, to discuss global refining capacities and raw material supply security. Strategic analysts emphasize that finalizing the trade deal will provide renewed momentum for economic ties, technology sharing, and bilateral commercial investments.
