In a stunning achievement that is winning hearts across the country, 21 year old Ravi Tamta from Kaflikhan village in Almora district, Uttarakhand, has successfully built and test flown a single seater electric flying vehicle named HAPIDA SKYNeX. What makes this achievement truly special is that Ravi has no formal engineering or science background. The son of a local mechanic and a Bachelor of Arts graduate, he spent 13 years self learning through YouTube, internet tutorials, and practical experiments right from his home. Working under his startup, Hapida Sky Private Limited, he relied on family support and Indian innovation (desi jugaad) to turn his dream into reality.
The HAPIDA SKYNeX is an all electric Vertical Take Off and Landing (eVTOL) craft designed like a massive multirotor drone featuring an aerodynamic frame, transparent canopy, and powerful electric motors. In a successful test flight supervised by officials in Almora, the aircraft lifted off vertically, hovered steadily, and landed safely after nearly a minute in the air. Ravi created this vehicle to help people living in tough Himalayan mountain areas. In the hills, a 40 kilometer travel by road can take around 90 minutes. This flying vehicle can cover the same distance in just 10 to 15 minutes, making it a life saving solution for medical emergencies and remote travel.
His breakthrough caught national attention after Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised him on social media, along with recognition from Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu. Currently in its experimental prototype stage, the project will undergo further safety tests and seek official aviation approvals before any public use. Ravis story proves that passion and hard work can overcome any obstacle.
