A major counter intelligence operation is underway after a suspected Pakistan linked espionage network came under investigation in Andhra Pradesh and other parts of India. As many as 18 people are under the scanner, including 13 suspected Indian Navy personnel, officials said.

The Andhra Pradesh counter intelligence wing has launched, Operation Firewall 2026. Around 12 teams are carrying out searches across 10 states and Union Territories, including Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra and Karnataka. Investigators are checking possible links between the suspects and Pakistan intelligence operatives through encrypted communication platforms.

The investigation is mainly focused on possible leaks of sensitive information connected to the Indian Navy and defence establishments in Visakhapatnam, an important naval centre. Electronic devices have reportedly been seized from several suspects.

Two people have already been arrested. Annam Sai Varaprasad, a civilian contract driver working with the Navy, was arrested in Visakhapatnam for allegedly passing sensitive defence related information to a Pakistan linked operative. Another accused, 31 year old Navy sailor Pradeep Mukherjee, was arrested in Coimbatore. He is accused of allegedly sharing classified maritime information after reportedly becoming a target of a honeytrap. The investigation against the remaining suspects is continuing. Officials are examining their digital communications, financial transactions, electronic devices and possible foreign contacts.
