India had a big day at the Asian Games 2026 on Tuesday as the country won its first gold medal of the competition. The women cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final at Aichi Nagoya and successfully defended its Asian Games title. India scored 216/3 before bowling Sri Lanka out for just 69.
Smriti Mandhana scored 79 runs from 45 balls, while Shafali Verma made 48. Richa Ghosh also played a quick unbeaten knock of 49 runs from 22 balls. The Indian bowlers then completed the job with a strong performance. This victory gave India its first gold of the Games and took the medal tally to seven.
India also assured another medal in mens badminton after defeating Japan 3-0 in the quarterfinal. Lakshya Sen made a strong comeback to win his match, while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also secured victory. Ayush Shetty then completed the 3-0 win, sending India into the semifinals and assuring at least a bronze medal. In wushu, Roshibina Devi reached the semifinals in the womens 60kg Sanda event, confirming another medal for India. India mens hockey team also continued its strong run with a 16-1 win over Sri Lanka.
